|UPDATE 01.01.13: We've successfully reached our goal by reducing our energy usage over the last 12 months by over 108,000 KW compared to 2011 – that's a 16% decrease!
The steps we implemented last winter have resulted in a year-to-date reduction in our electric usage by 26,900 KW compared to the first six months of 2011 – that's a drop of almost 9% year to date. We think that's pretty impressive when you consider the record-setting heat wave we've experienced this summer.
We took 3 steps over the winter in our quest to cut our electric energy usage by 15% in 2012.
|Microgrid Energy installed 105 American-made SolarWorld modules with 93 of the panels on our roof and another 12 on two awnings at the front of our building. This 25.2kW system feeds directly into our service panel and we qualified for an Investment Tax Credit and a Ameren Solar Rebate. The array produces about 31,300 kW annually – enough to power three average households for a year.
|Below is a real-time summary of the amount of energy that is produced by our solar arrays, in addition to the enviromental benefits to date. Take a look around!|
|We are converting our venue and stage lighting to LED fixtures. Most of the stage lighting is already in place and the general lighting of the venue will change-over gradually through the year as our old incandescent bulbs burn out.
View the pictures below to learn about incandescent vs. LED bulbs and see them in action!
Lastly, we applied a White Reflective Elastomeric Coating on our roof to reduce the surface temperature in the hot months. This will help keep things a little cooler and reduce our air-conditioning demands (our single largest energy user).
