Les Gruff and the Billy Goat is an Americana/Roots Rock band led by the songwriting of Billy Croghan and Tony Compton. When this pair met in 2012, they were quick friends, drinking buddies, and enablers. They began writing songs together, assembled a 6-piece band, and a new energy took hold. Moving from an acoustic folk style to a high energy electric country/rock band, Les Gruff does not shy away from hot guitar licks, tasteful solos or a ripping fiddle line, and has an innate ability to catch and keep an audience rapt.
Les Gruff and the Billy Goat’s latest release, “The Last Night,” is a 13-track collection recorded semi-live in a weekend’s time. What you’ll hear, though, shows no lack of time and effort put into these tracks. The music is fully developed and executed with acute attention to detail. From the friendly on-record banter to the vibraslap in “Don’t Say my Name,” no stone was left unturned.
Les Gruff has been trekking the Midwest and down through Texas, honing its live chops and making friends for the last couple of years while continuing to work on new material. Where will it go next? You can find out later this year on their new record. Announcements coming soon!
